(Usain Bolt's 400 relay teammate came to Taiwan)
(Climbed up 91 floors to get on top of Taipei 101. 2 minutes quicker than 2 years ago)

Was in Hualien repairing mountain trails. It's a 2-day working holiday combined with some eco tourism. Speaking of maintaining the trail, local Amis community definitely plays the main role. Though city kids like me can barely move a rock, we can raise the awareness of eco tour by influencing people around us.

There was a performance by indigenous people from Lanyu Island. The performance featured dance and songs for purposes such as praying for good harvest. One thing special was the clapping chorus The chorus is rarely performed nowadays, so some Taiwanese people wanna do something to preserve it. Here comes two points of views. First, the cultural event may be dying because it is longer part of local people's life. If it's the case, we outsiders risk ruining the true meaning of the event by commoditizing it, even when it is preserved. On the other hand, we may view the commoditizing process as a natural evolution of the event. (...) too difficult, let's just take a nap.

Went to Dharma drum mountain for a 2-day zen meditation. "This will be a rare chance for you to date with yourself.", said the master at the beginning. I think I date myself quite a lot, though. From the two days' experience, I guess the whole point is to try to anchor your mind, and don't let it drift here and there. Sit down and try to empty your mind, then you'll know how difficult it is.

Signed up for a training session for volunteers of the upcoming Flora Expo in Taipei. Surprisingly few countries (Spain and Taiwan) have laws dedicated to volunteering, partly because volunteering is covered in other laws in other countries. I was told that volunteers are in fact costly and difficult to manage. Well, this I don't know yet, but I tried to figure out, during the boring training session, why people volunteer? For me, it has nothing to do with altruism or things like that. I am just taking this as a part-time job, which has low entry and exit barrier.

The trip was cut short because I was too tired to do anything after the 21k run. Guess it's about time to retire from long distance running.
